Surgical
oncology is a specialty that focuses on the surgical treatment
of a variety of tumors, the most common being breast cancer, colorectal
cancer, melanoma, and endocrine tumors. Surgical oncology requires
specialized training after a general surgery residency. The best
training comes from programs approved by the Society of Surgical
Oncology (SSO), and all of our surgeons have SSO-certified training
at some of the most prestigious medical centers in the country.
Surgical oncologists provide the most sophisticated and comprehensive
cancer care, because of the training and experience in only treating
cancers. Since we understand all aspects of cancer care, we base
our recommendations on the latest advances in surgery, chemotherapy,
and radiation. We meet regularly with the medical oncologists and
the radiation oncologists, so that all aspects of our patients
care has been thoroughly reviewed. This provides a coordinated
team approach that has been proven to increase cure rates and make
our patients more comfortable and informed.
We perform our surgery at both The Westchester Medical Center
and The Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry. At The Westchester Medical
Center we have all of the latest technological equipment and special
services available for complex cancer procedures. Our ambulatory
surgery is performed in a newly designed efficient outpatient operating
suite. At The Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry we treat our patients
in an often quieter, more personalized setting of a boutique hospital,
resulting in outstanding patient satisfaction.
